Healing the Sick and Preaching the Gospel: A Dual Mandate

By worldevangelismblog.com

When we look at the ministry of Jesus in the Gospels, two patterns are always evident—He preached the Gospel, and He healed the sick. These two were never separated. He brought words of life to the soul and power of healing to the body. This same pattern continues today through the ministry of Bishop Dag Heward-Mills.

At every Healing Jesus Campaign, both parts of this divine mandate are at work. The Gospel is boldly proclaimed, and the sick are healed in Jesus’ name. This dual mandate reflects the full heart of God for humanity. He does not only care for spiritual salvation—He cares for physical restoration. He saves and heals. And Bishop Dag ministers with that full understanding.

The Gospel First

Preaching the Gospel is always the priority. Bishop Dag takes time to open the Word of God, sharing the message of salvation in a way that is clear, simple, and deeply convicting. The cross is not skipped. Repentance is not watered down. He calls sinners to Jesus with passion and urgency.

Before any healing happens, the message of Christ is lifted high. Because faith comes by hearing, and healing flows when the people believe. The Gospel prepares the ground. It softens hearts. It opens the door for heaven to move. And when the Gospel is preached in power, healing follows as a sign that the Word is true.

Healing That Confirms the Message

The miracles that take place in the crusades are not the focus—but they are the confirmation. Just as in the book of Acts, God bears witness to the Word with signs and wonders. Bishop Dag does not chase miracles. He chases souls. But the miracles come anyway, because Jesus always comes where He is preached.

As the people hear the Gospel, faith begins to rise. And during the healing prayer, the anointing flows like a river. It is not only the loud or dramatic healings that matter. Sometimes a quiet moment becomes the doorway to a lifelong testimony. One woman touched during a crusade testified that the moment she said “Amen,” the tumor in her body vanished. Another man, bedridden for months, found strength and stood up with tears in his eyes.

Each healing draws people deeper into the reality of who Jesus is. He is not only Savior. He is Healer. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

A Commission to the Church

Bishop Dag Heward-Mills teaches that this dual mandate is not just for a few—it is for the entire Church. Every believer is called to share the Gospel. And every believer can lay hands on the sick and expect recovery. Healing and preaching are not reserved for stages or crusades—they are the lifestyle of a Spirit-filled Christian.

He also trains his pastors and lay workers to minister in both areas. To preach with conviction and to pray with faith. His books and teachings emphasize the balance of word and power, of message and miracles. This balanced ministry produces lasting fruit—not just excitement, but transformation.

Walking in the Fullness of the Mandate

Healing the sick and preaching the Gospel is not a formula—it is the outflow of a surrendered life. Bishop Dag has laid down his life for this purpose, and the results speak for themselves. Souls are saved. Bodies are healed. Jesus is glorified.

This dual mandate remains the heartbeat of the Healing Jesus Campaign and the foundation of Bishop Dag’s evangelistic call. It is a model for the Church today and a challenge for every believer to step into the fullness of what Jesus commanded.

Wherever the Gospel is preached and the sick are healed, the kingdom of God advances. And in the ministry of Dag Heward-Mills, that kingdom continues to spread—one soul, one healing, one crusade at a time.
